The Rundown will not publish next week but we’ll be back Friday, April 14!
1. H.R. 1, the Bipartisan Lower Energy Costs Act passes House
House Republicans passed their signature energy package yesterday which will deliver lower emissions, lower costs, and more energy independence.
Here’s what people are saying about the bill:
The Wall Street Journal wrote that “Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s Lower Energy Costs Act includes reforms to unburden energy producers and cut costs for consumers.”
The Washington Examiner published an op-ed from U.S. Reps. Curtis (R-UT) and Miller-Meeks, M.D. (R-IA) how the bill will provide affordable, reliable, and clean energy.
The Washington Times has an article with polling data showing how most Americans give a thumbs up to the GOP energy package.
RealClear Energy published a column from CRES President, Heather Reams, saying it’s a win for American clean energy and national security.
ClearPath Action endorsedH.R. 1 saying, “This bill will unleash innovation, increase American production of energy, reduce global emissions, and make energy more affordable for American families.”
2. NEW POLLING: Clean energy solutions attract Independents and Republicans
In a new survey done byEchelon Insights for ClearPath Action, we examined how the country views climate change and clean energy. Toplines and a Congressional district by district analysis can be found here.
Plug in: 80% of voters believe that clean energy is an issue that Republicans in Congress should care about, according to a nationwide survey.
86% of voters believe it is possible for the U.S. to develop cleaner energy sources that can also provide more affordable energy.
Majorities of Republicans and Independents and a plurality of Democrats say innovation — not regulation — is the best way to fight climate change.
Voters, and Republicans in particular, believe advanced nuclear power and permitting reform could have a major impact on climate change.
What’s clear: “This data shows that Republican lawmakers can winover swing voters while offering a clean energy message that is appealing to their base conservatives,” said Luke Bolar, Chief External Affairs Officer at ClearPath Action.
3. JTN: Inside the Commitment to America
House Republicans are delivering on the Commitment to America’s plan for reducing carbon emissions. Just the News takes a deeper dive in a conversation with Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA) joined Speaker McCarthy discussing the emissions reductions America has made, and how we can impact global emissions reductions.
ClearPath CEO Rich Powell also joined the special to highlight the need to modernize permitting and support more American energy development.
4. Why the GE Hitachi / TVA partnership is a big deal
If there was any doubt, the future of small modular reactors is becoming more clear in light of the deal last week between the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and two other partners.
Combined, the partners are committing $400 million to standardize GEH’s advanced nuclear design for deployment in Canada, Poland and the U.S.
Ontario Power Generation and Synthos Green Energy, of Poland, joined TVA and GE Hitachi to invest in the BWRX-300 small modular reactor design.
What’s clear: America’s advanced nuclear innovations can promote energy security for ourselves and our allies. Wide scale deployment is just around the corner and leveraging international partnerships can accelerate global emissions reductions.
5. ICYMI
David Malpass, president of the World Bank and DJ Nordquist, a ClearPath Advisor and former executive director at the World Bank, joined CSIS at a recent event to discuss the role of the World Bank and private sector in the future of global development.
