Mark Peters is President and CEO of MITRE, a global not-for-profit technology company operating R&D centers worldwide. He leads technical expertise delivery across AI, aerospace, telecommunications, homeland security, cyber, transportation, defense, intelligence, health and government innovation.
Peters is a recognized expert in nuclear energy and national security, with over 25 years of experience leading federally funded R&D centers. Before joining MITRE in 2024, he served as Executive Vice President at Battelle Memorial Institute, Director of Idaho National Laboratory and President of Battelle Energy Alliance LLC.
He chaired the National Laboratory Directors’ Council for two years and served as Associate Laboratory Director for Energy and Global Security at Argonne National Laboratory.
Peters received the 2023 Henry DeWolf Smyth Nuclear Statesman Award. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and he serves on the Idaho Power Board and the National Academies Board on Human-Systems Integration. Virginia Business Magazine named him to its Power 500 list in 2024 and 2025.
