Biography

William F. Martin is an energy economist who served during the Reagan Administration as Deputy Secretary of Energy, Executive Secretary (Chief of Staff) of the U.S. National Security Council and Special Assistant to President Ronald Reagan. He was also Chairman of the Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee for a decade under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

During the second oil shock of the 1970s, Martin also served as Program Officer of the MIT Workshop on Alternative Energy Strategies and as Special Assistant to the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency. He was later Executive Director of the Republican Platform Committee for President George H.W. Bush.

In 2007, IAEA Executive Director Mohamed ElBaradei appointed Martin as Coordinator of the 20/20 project – an assessment of the future of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He was also President of the Council of the University for Peace, after being appointed to the council by Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan.
